[Excerpted] Investigative reports and on-the-ground testimonies have made it public knowledge that far more people than al-Qaida leaders are killed by drone strikes. The U.K.’s Bureau of Investigative Journalism (BIJ) estimates that in Yemen, Pakistan and Somalia over 1,o00 civilians may have been killed by U.S. drone strikes. The Obama administration has long maintained, however, that strikes are only ever authorized to target “specific senior operational leaders of al-Qaida and associated forces.” Documents obtained by McClatchy newspapers suggest that these claims are false.
The top-secret intelligence reports reveal, as one expert with the Council on Foreign Relations told McClatchy, that the administration is “misleading the public about the scope of who can legitimately be targeted.” It is not clear who leaked the documents to McClatchy for review....

Majia here: Drone warfare by the US is expanding across the globe as a new drone base is established in Africa and as the US relies on drones to kill so-called terrorist targets in a global war on terror.
However, drone warfare is self-defeating. Drones produce terrorists after their missiles kill innocents. So, drone warfare by the CIA is able to legitimize operations by producing more terrorists.
Drone warfare and the global war on terror demonstrate the sickness at the heart of the US empire.
Now it seems that drone warlord Obama has some reservation about unchecked CIA terrorism with drones:

Majia here: I don't know if anyone remembers but the government of Pakistan demanded that the CIA leave the country because the agency refused to consult with the government before drone attacks were launched inside the country. See for example this article here for discussion.
The CIA is lawless and fascistic but transferring drone warfare to the Pentagon is not the solution.
Obama should HALT all drone attacks and re-establish HABEAS CORPUS and DUE PROCESS.
